SOME stories make you so angry that you struggle to focus and concentrate when you have read or heard them….one such is the disgraced former Plaid Cymru AM Simon Thomas, who, it has now emerged, claimed expenses AFTER he left the Welsh Assembly Government in disgrace after being found guilty of downloading child porn.
It raises deeply disturbing issues around whether or not taxpayers were subsidising his habit.
Did he download any of this illegal material onto computers at the Welsh Assembly Government building or even in the chamber itself, as members are given access to computers there?
He walked free last year at Mold magistrates court after being given a suspended sentence of 26 weeks when it emerged he made online images of children as young as six.
Welsh Conservative AM Andrew RT Davies has called on the attorney general to examine what he calls a “ridiculously lenient” sentence.
Thomas was found to have over claimed £349.20 in mortgage interest when he was an MP in the House of Commons between 2004 and 2005 under the additional costs allowance (ACA). He was recommended to repay this sum, by 1 April 2009 no money was repaid.
